Eager to establish digital literacy and accountability, particularly on the use of social media, the Office of the Vice President for Digital Transformation (OVPDT) initiated an orientation on social media registration and management at the Graduate Studies Library on July 4.
Prior to the orientation, the OVPDT was prompted to craft guidelines on social media registration and management.
Approximately twenty representatives across colleges, departments, offices, and student organizations gathered to be acquainted with the newly crafted guidelines to effectively deliver information for the academic community that is timely, appropriate, and reliable, while also adhering to the highest ethical standards of social media usage.

This initiative was undertaken in accordance with the recommendation of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) during the Student Affairs and Services (SAS) Monitoring and Evaluation, as well as due to the risks posed by the increasing number of social media accounts affiliated with Naga College Foundation, Inc. (NCF).
According to Mr. Brenn Yulo M. Bacus, Training and Communications Manager, who led the discussion on the social media guidelines, there are more than a hundred social media accounts linked to NCF that are “deregulated and least monitored.”

Bacus also emphasized the need to regulate social media accounts and pages affiliated with the NCF to guarantee streamlined online services for its stakeholders.
Eyeing a comprehensive, whole-of-institution approach to digital literacy, the Office of the Vice President for Digital Transformation (OVPDT) also unveiled that the next groups of social media account administrators—from administrative and auxiliary services, the Basic Education Department, non-mandated student organizations, and the Sports, Culture, and the Arts division—will also be called for the same purpose.
Further, this initiative enjoined the Tigers to ”productive, responsible, and safe use” of various digital platforms, particularly Facebook pages, now primarily used for information dissemination.
