Aiming to “strengthen the linkage between industry and academe through mutually beneficial partnerships” for quality Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering (BSGE) education, the College of Engineering (COE) of Naga College Foundation, Inc. (NCF) entered into a landmark undertaking by sealing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with three prominent engineering and surveying firms on August 17 , 2026, at the Board Room, NCF Main Campus.
Present at the MOA signing were industry partners, namely: ADZ Engineering and Consultancy, represented by Mr. Adrian Angelo B. Pormalejo; AF Florin Design and Construction (AFFDC), represented by Engr. Allan Filio Florin; and Genio Realty and Surveying Services (GRASS), represented by Engr. Alex A. Genio.
Engr. Florin, representing AFFDC, graduated from NCF in 1999 and secured First Place in the 2002 Geodetic Engineering Licensure Examination (GELE). Meanwhile, Engr. Genio of GRASS placed 15th in the 1996 Junior Geodetic Engineer Examination and formerly served as a faculty member for NCF’s BSGE program.
Demonstrating institutional continuity, Mr. Pormalejo, a current BSGE student representing ADZ Engineering and Consultancy, was accompanied by Engr. Angelo T. Pormalejo—a multi-hyphenated engineer and founder of the award-winning firm.
Establishing a robust framework for industry-academe collaboration, NCF was represented by its key officials: Mr. Mario C. Villanueva, NCF President; Dr. Aida P. Osea, Executive Vice President for External Linkages and Internationalization; Dr. Nora Elizabeth F. Maniquiz, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Monsito G. Ilarde, Dean of COE; and Engr. Maricel P. Gonzales, BSGE Program Chairperson.
Under the stipulations of the three independent agreements, COE and its industry collaborators will work together on multiple fronts, including student internships, on-the-job training opportunities, faculty development, continuing professional education, joint research, and technology transfer.
The partnership paves the way for NCF and its partners to utilize high-value technical equipment for high-precision aerial 3D mapping, including Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) systems, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology—transformative innovations in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial sciences.
Apart from technological demonstrations, the parties will also engage in community extension programs focused on disaster resilience and environmental protection.
President Villanueva expressed that this collaboration comes at an opportune time to involve NCeans—particularly geodetic engineering students—in the evolving landscape of geosciences technology, leveraging their innate keenness for innovation fostered by COE’s academic instruction.
Echoing this vision, Dr. Ilarde accentuated that the strategic triple linkage serves as a reconnection of “geodetic engineering champions” that will further elevate the program.
As part of the pioneer geodetic engineering program in Naga City, this initiative aligns with NCF’s broader push to bridge academic training and industry practice, offering stakeholders structured exposure and experiential learning in the evolving landscape of engineering education.
