The cauldron was set ablaze for the brand-new edition of the Bicol Universities and Colleges Athletic League (BUCAL), awakening the region’s elite heavyweights for the 8th Season of the Junior Men’s Basketball Tournament during the grand opening ceremonies on July 17, 2026, held at the Sports Palace of the host institution, the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) in Naga City.

The opening ceremony was electrified as A.Roar.A—Bicol’s first P-Pop girl group—delivered a high-spirited send-off performance for the 12 competing teams of the coveted hardwood duel, including the new roster of hoopsters from the Naga College Foundation, Inc. (NCF) Tigers Cubs.

Armed with intense offseason preparation and unyielding determination, the NCF Tiger Cubs are locked, loaded, and ready to dominate the regional hardcourt anew.

Dr. Fay Lea Patricia M. Lauraya, UNC President, delivered a powerful message of reflection on “competitive supremacy,” emphasizing that sports should serve as a common pathway for the holistic development of students despite intense trophy rivalries.

“As we raise our banners today, we must do so with more than excitement; we must do so with a profound sense of reflection as well,” Dr. Lauraya noted, emphasizing that BUCAL acts as a “sanctuary of growth for young athletes” with the ultimate goal to foster solidarity, build character, and serve as a platform to shape minds beyond the classroom.

Meanwhile, this season marks a triumphant return to digital free TV via GNN TV48 Naga, serving as the official livestreaming and on-demand broadcast partner of the BUCAL games.
